OUR STORY

Hi we're BB4.

Remember those days of wooden sticks and the first generations of sandy, knee tearing astro-turf pitches? That's where, in 1985 we met, both trying out for the Sussex U13 team. The overiding feel of excitement masked the musty smell of the changing room, as we jumped up and down after being selected to represent our county. From that day 40 years ago we have both had the privilege to work and play in the hockey world.

You could say we owe a lot to hockey and you'd be right. Relationships, friends, team mates, earning a living and bringing our children up around hockey have given us years of enjoyment.

That is why we decided to build the BB4 brand to help clubs, schools and universities and their players. We want to encourage a new generation of players to feel the same excitment that we did all those years ago. We want them to love hockey for life and give them the gold standard in coaching, so they have the opportunity to benefit from it as much as we have.

    2. What advice would you give your 13 year old self? Be brave, have fun, train hard.
    3. Favourite pre-match food? Porridge and honey
    4. Do you have any superstitions/pre-game rituals? Left sock, shoe, shin pad!
    5. Favourite role model? Richard Leman, Jerry Cox.

  • WHY BB4?

    BB4 stands for Ben Barnes and his shirt number 4. There is nothing more important than the shirt you play in. It is a privilege to wear and holds inside it all the values of the team, club, county, division or country you play for. It stands for all the hard work and resilence that have got you there. We believe that you are just a custodian of that shirt for the next player to take over. This mirrors the values we aspire to bring to the BB4 brand.

  • What is BB4?

    BB4 is a coaching brand, essentially giving you over 40 years of experience, whether that be through our Hockey Camps, Master classes or The Coaching Bible. We are here to help organisations and players become the best they can and to support them on their journey. We are a hockey family and our core values align with that idea. We want to go above and beyond to make sure that we help you deliver the best coaching.

  • How was BB4 born?

    Serendipity - the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

    Bumped into each other on the side of a hockey pitch, obviously! Ben was with his young family and Jeremy was coaching. Both our partners were playing against each other. We got talking and realised there might be an opportunity to work together. A few lunches together in Arundel and here we are, BB4 was born.
